What began as a teenage obsession in the 1990s with my very first pair of Arizonas has grown into a lifelong passion for all things Birkenstock. Love the blog! My girlfriends and I just had a very loooooonf conversation about our Birkenstocks and how glad we were they are back in style. We all had the Arizona as well. I wore mine down to nothing.

I recently (last summer) bought the Adria thong sandal... A rare find, as they aren't for sale everywhere. I can't wait to wear them again😉.

Hi Femi,
Thank you for reaching out. It is hard for me to recommend one style. There are so many great choices since our high school days. If you are willing to commit to the break in process of the Original Footbed, I would recommend the Gizeh or Mayari. The Gizeh is the Birkenstock option for a thong. If you don't like the toe piece, consider the Mayari. I don't feel the toe piece in the Gizeh at all. If you want an easier break in period take a peek at Soft Footbed Birkenstocks. Unfortunately there are few Soft Footbed options in the Gizeh or Mayari models. The good news is that the Arizona style has many choices with a Soft Footbed (like silver, copper, and gold!). Happy shoe shopping! I would love to hear which style and color you choose. -Gina

Thanks a one much for this blog! I can't decide which size... 39 or 40 fits me best. I am a 9 in other shoes. The 39'S fit but one or 2 toes JUST hit the toe "lip" and although my heel doesn't go over the back, they don't have much room back there at all. However, the 40'S seem a little loose and there is more room in the toe area but maybe this is correct?

PS.... I used to wear birks for years and I think they were 39's. I'm just getting back into wearing them again (LOVE) and have both 39's and 40'.... I just wish I KNEW which one was my proper size.

I highly recommend you visit an authorized Birkenstock dealer to get fitted for the proper size shoe. I sent you an email with more information.
