An article on CNBC, by Ari Levy, titled "Birkenstock quits Amazon in US after counterfeit surge" was published on Wednesday, July 20, 2016.  The article explains that as of January, 1, 2017, Birkenstock will no longer be supplying any of its products to Amazon. This is in response to the increase of counterfeit Birkenstock merchandise being sold on the Amazon marketplace.  Please read the article!

Counterfeit Birkenstocks: What You Need to Know & Where to Buy Authentic

Curious how fakes show up in the real world? In Bogus Birks, I break down a Poshmark “deal” gone wrong, where 11 different red flags appeared: chemical smell, crushed box, mismatched labels, shiny flimsy buckles, and even an oversized outsole stamped with “Birk.”  Not every surprise means counterfeit—for instance, Birkenstock did update their Original Footbed logo from yellow to black (while Soft Footbed logos remain blue).


If you’re brand new to Birks, I recommend reading Birkenstocks: Stepping Into Your First Pair to nail down the right size and width—and here’s the most important part: stick with authorized retailers like Birkenstock, Zappos, and Nordstrom.  REMEMBER: Do not buy Birkenstocks on Amazon, since they are not an authorized dealer and counterfeit pairs have been widely reported.


And if bargain knockoffs catch your eye, remember that the genuine cork-latex footbed, EVA outsole, and long-term repairability are what make authentic Birkenstocks worth every penny.  I explain why in Knock Off Birkenstocks. Bottom line: buy from trusted sellers, check that packaging and footbed details line up, and if anything feels questionable—send them back.
