The Stowe had excellent traction and unbeatable stability—my original “apocalypse-proof” pair. They handled Bay Area rain, mud, and winter weather like tanks.

The downside? The arch placement in the 39 Regular never matched my true 38 Regular feet, which meant heel blisters with thin socks and a fit that never fully settled in.

I didn’t have that problem at all with the Women’s Thermal #2223. Those boots felt a little roomier right out of the box compared to the 550s, and the lining added a touch of instant comfort. The only minor challenge I’ve had was getting my foot into the high-top boot the first few times. The opening can feel tight initially, but once it loosens up, it’s no longer an issue. After a few wears, the pull-on tabs and elastic sides do their job, and slipping them on becomes second nature.
